If there has been one word that has dominated the news cycle over the past weeks and months, it has been uncertainty. Elections, inaugurations, tariffs, leadership races, the affordability crisis, it seems like everything is upside-down right now, with change being the only constant.

While this widespread uncertainty may be new for many, for our clients, it is their reality on a daily basis, and has been for a very long time.

Questions like “Where will I sleep tonight?”, “Where will my next hot meal come from?”, and “Will I be safe from the cold?” are asked by the unhoused population of our city almost every day.

For the past 69 years, Mission Services of Hamilton has brought stability during troubled times, providing warm shelter and healthy food when people’s lives have been turned upside-down.

When Mission Services was founded in 1956 as the Harbour Rescue Mission, our original logo was that of a lighthouse, a picture of strength and stability during the storms of life. Now, our logo symbolizes forward movement as we walk through these tumultuous times together.

As you will read in this issue of The Edge, Bob found stability and a new lease on life thanks to the incredible work of our Housing Up! Program. Tyler found purpose and a passion for mentorship as a volunteer in our Good Food Centre, and we look at how Mission Services provides stability for our community through housing supports.

The year ahead may bring its share of uncertainties, but Mission Services will be there, ready to stand strong and offer hope, no matter how daunting the challenges ahead.

Thank you for helping us provide strength and stability when our city needs it most.
