Volunteers are the heart of our mission
At Mission Services of Hamilton, our work is guided by a simple but powerful commitment: to restore hope and empower people to find their way forward. And while our programs, buildings, and services may be what people see on the surface, the heart behind all of it has always been our people – our staff and our volunteers.
Volunteer Canada’s theme for this year is “Ignite Volunteerism”. Here at Mission Services, our volunteers ignite volunteerism by living it. You prove, every single day, that volunteerism isn’t an abstract idea or a national campaign. It’s local. It’s personal. And it changes lives.
Whether you are serving meals, working with youth, sorting donations, helping behind the scenes, or simply showing up with empathy and respect—you are meeting people exactly where they are. And in doing so, you are reminding them that they matter.
For more than 70 years, Mission Services has relied on volunteers to help create deep and lasting change in this community. While much has evolved over the decades, one thing has never changed: the dedication, compassion, and generosity of our volunteers. Every hour you give is a gift. Every act of kindness is a powerful statement of hope.
When Volunteer Canada talks about igniting volunteerism, they speak of connection, inclusion, and community resilience. Here, that’s not just theory, it’s practice. You help transform services into relationships, programs into possibility, and moments of crisis into moments of dignity.
Because of you, people in our city don’t just receive help, they experience care.
Thank you, volunteers. Thank you for your time. Thank you for your talents. And thank you for choosing to walk alongside us in building a more compassionate, hopeful, and equitable Hamilton.
Thank you for being the heart of Mission Services.

On Thursday, April 23 we celebrated National Volunteer Week with some of our volunteers!
