Making a Difference as a Family

While Lindsay, Amanda, and Chad share the bond of family, they also share the bond of being passionate about making a difference in their community

“I’m a helper,” Lindsay said, “I really love helping people, whether that’s men, women, or children.”

Lindsay has been with Mission Services for 16 years, working in a variety of roles across the organization, including positions at our Men’s Shelter and in Addiction Services. Today, she is the Manager of Community Services and Outreach Programs.

“I felt like this job almost chose me. I’m a helper by nature, and I’ve really found my calling here at Mission Services and being a part of these programs.”

In recent years, both Lindsay’s husband, Chad, and her sister, Amanda, have also joined Mission Services. They each saw the opportunity to bring their own unique skills to the community, and have made helping others a family affair. For Amanda, her role as Kitchen Manager is about being able to use her culinary background to help others.

“I volunteered in the kitchen at Mission Services a number of years ago. From that day forward, I knew I could see myself serving in that way some day,” Amanda said.

Amanda brings over 20 years of experience in the food industry to her role, including managerial experience at a national restaurant chain. She understands the importance that food has in someone’s life.

“When I was ready for a change, I knew that Mission Services was a place that I could have a real impact,” she said.

“I may not be working one-on-one with the clients like Lindsay does, but I can feed people, and make sure that when they’re laying down in the shelter at night that they’ve had a good meal.”

“Amanda is a helper, like me,” Lindsay added, “We were both brought up to be there for our community, helping others however we could. When we were younger, that was making sure our friends who didn’t have much got to celebrate birthdays, and now it’s carried on into adulthood and our careers.”

Helping isn’t limited to just those in client-facing roles, though. Chad joined Mission Services’ Facilities Department in 2024, and now he’s able to use his background in construction to ensure that each of Mission Services’ locations keeps running.

“(Lindsay and Amanda’s departments) provide the programs and the fundamentals, but my department provides the facilities for them to be able to run those programs. It all works hand-in-hand,” Chad said.

“It’s definitely fulfilling. I’m still helping people, even though my role is a little bit more on the back end. You get to know the clients a little bit, and you feel like you have a bit of a part in their success.”

Seeing clients succeed is the goal for each member of the family, and they can each use their unique skills to help move people forward.

“Chad builds up spaces, and we build up people,” Lindsay said. “It’s pretty awesome to get to make a difference together and all have a part in it as a family.”
