Our client advocates offer practical guidance, referrals, and emotional support, all in a confidential and secure manner.
We are able to assist you by:
- Providing a space for you to express your emotions and feelings
- Develop a safety plan to try to minimize risk
- Connect you with necessary support services within our programs and resources in the community
Inasmuch House is a safe haven for women and non-binary people with or without children in their care who are experiencing abuse and/or homelessness.
We give women, non-binary people, and children who have experienced violence and abuse a safe place to stay while they rebuild their lives and return to the community. Our goal isn’t just to house women, non-binary people, and children, but to help them regain the confidence and strength to live a healthy and independent life again.
Services
Safe Shelter
Women, non-binary people, and their children can leave an abusive situation and find safe, free accommodation. While at Inasmuch House, they have access to meals, clothing, laundry, and other personal supports. While residing at Inasmuch House, clients will have support from a Residential Client Advocate to assist in goal-setting, accessing resources and programs within Inasmuch House or connecting with community agencies.
Residential Client Advocates provide emotional support, practical advice, and community referrals.
Child and Youth Workers
While staying Inasmuch House, mothers/caregivers, children, and youth can access support from our knowledgeable and trained child and youth workers. Child and Youth Workers provide programming for youth, child-minding for caregivers when needed, and more.
Legal Advocacy
The Legal Advocate assists both residential and outreach clients identify, connect, and engage with legal services in the community. This program assists in navigating areas of family law, criminal law, and immigration law. Our Legal Advocate is not a lawyer or a paralegal, but provides education, support, advocacy, and legal appointment accompaniments with clients.
Clients that are unfamiliar with the Canadian legal context will be provided with accessible information, language interpretation, and assistance with navigating the various legal systems.
As an outreach program, you do not have to be residing in the shelter to receive this service. The Legal Advocate offers appointments by phone, email, virtually, or in person.
Transitional Housing Support Worker
The on-site Transitional Housing Support Workers assist women and non-binary people with finding and maintaining safe affordable housing, safety planning, risk management, applying for social housing, securing financial assistance, and connecting with other community services.
As an outreach program, clients do not have to be residing in the shelter to receive this service.
The Transitional Housing Support Workers offers appointments by phone, email, virtually, or in person.
Groups and One-to-One
LEAF Group Programming (Learning Effective Anti-Violence in Families) provides both residential and outreach clients a safe space to discuss abuse and violence in group family setting, virtually and in-person.
The LEAF program helps children and youth (ages 4-16) who have witnessed violence talk about their experience, provide abuse education and awareness, provide emotional support and offer early intervention to those who have been exposed to violence.
Mothers/caregivers are also encouraged to participate in programming to discuss safety plans, anger management, and how to recognize abuse.
Text Inasmuch
In addition to our 24-hour crisis phone support, Text Inasmuch is a secure text and web-based service for women and non-binary people in Hamilton experiencing homelessness and abuse. Our client advocates provide emotional support, practical advice and referrals. Learn more here.

Our program’s priority is safety for women and children, creating a physically and emotionally safe environment.
Our trauma-informed approach strives to understand the whole of an individual who seeks our service.
We do this through inclusive client-centered support, compassion, non-judgement, information sharing, empowerment, community building, and creating collaborative relationships.
Inasmuch House receives funding from the following partners: the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, Hamilton's Ward 2 Grant, and the Ontario Trillium Foundation (new bathrooms).
