Public Health has declared an outbreak at Inasmuch House, our violence against women shelter, currently consisting of one positive case. On April 29th, one of our Inasmuch House staff did not pass our internal health screening requirements and the Shelter Health team facilitated testing for that individual. We were advised on May 2nd that this person’s COVID-19 swab results were POSITIVE. Shelter Health is in contact with this individual and they will not return to work until approved by Public Health to do so.
Approximately 60 clients and staff were all tested over the weekend and all received NEGATIVE results. We continue to monitor the health of clients and staff on a twice daily basis as well.
Public Health has visited the shelter and has indicated that we are following all of their recommendations and guidelines regarding safe practices and protocols. It is our hope that these practices will prevent a wider spread than the one individual. Thank you to the Shelter Health Network for their swift and compassionate care in keeping our clients and staff as safe as possible.
The dedicated staff at Inasmuch House remain committed to serving women and children fleeing intimate partner violence while practicing health and safety recommendations during the pandemic. Our 24-hour crisis line remains open for women in need: 905-529-8600.
