March 26, 2021 – Public Health has declared an outbreak of COVID-19 at our Men’s Shelter on 325 James Street North, currently consisting of two positive cases. The positive individuals are residents of our men’s shelter and were identified through the asymptomatic surveillance testing study being conducted weekly by McMaster University at our various sites. Arrangements have been made for both of those individuals to be transferred to the isolation centre.

Public Health and the Shelter Health Network have visited the shelter throughout the pandemic and have indicated that we are following all of their recommendations and guidelines regarding safe practices and protocols.

It is our hope that these practices will prevent a wider spread than the one individual. Thank you to the Shelter Health Network for their swift and compassionate care in keeping our clients and staff as safe as possible.

The dedicated staff at the Men’s Shelter remain committed to serving unhoused men while practicing health and safety recommendations during the pandemic.

We are also pleased to announce that the outbreak at the East Hamilton Overflow Shelter has ended.

Ongoing and current updates regarding active outbreaks will be posted at the top of our website.
