February 18, 2021 – Public Health has declared an outbreak of COVID-19 at our Men’s Shelter on 325 James Street North, currently consisting of one positive case. The positive individual is a resident of our men’s shelter and has been relocated to the isolation centre.
Men’s Services has identified to Public Health all staff, residents, and visitors who have been on site within the exposure time frame. The Shelter Health Network is arranging testing for all residents and staff. They have identified individuals with high risk exposure and are triaging their testing accordingly.
All client intakes into the Shelter are paused until the outbreak is declared over, and all non-essential staff are working from home.
On February 12, 2021, Public Health declared an outbreak of COVID-19 at Inasmuch House, consisting of two positive cases, both residents. During follow up testing of staff and residents conducted by the Shelter Health Network, a staff member at Inasmuch House has tested positive, and is self-isolating at home.
Public Health and the Shelter Health Network have visited the Men’s Shelter and Inasmuch House throughout the pandemic and have indicated that we are following all of their recommendations and guidelines regarding safe practices and protocols.
It is our hope that these practices will prevent a wider spread. Thank you to the Shelter Health Network for their swift and compassionate care in keeping our clients and staff as safe as possible.
