January 14, 2021 – Public Health has declared an outbreak of COVID-19 at our Men’s Shelter on 325 James Street North, currently consisting of one positive case. The positive individual is a resident of our men’s shelter and was identified through the asymptomatic surveillance testing study being conducted weekly by McMaster University at our various sites.

Men’s Services has identified to Public Health all staff, residents, and visitors who have been on site within the exposure time frame. The Shelter Health Network has been on site today testing both residents and staff. They have identified individuals with high risk exposure and are triaging their testing accordingly.

Public Health and the Shelter Health Network have visited the shelter throughout the pandemic and have indicated that we are following all of their recommendations and guidelines regarding safe practices and protocols.

It is our hope that these practices will prevent a wider spread than the one individual. Thank you to the Shelter Health Network for their swift and compassionate care in keeping our clients and staff as safe as possible.

The dedicated staff at the Men’s Shelter remain committed to serving unhoused men while practicing health and safety recommendations during the pandemic.
