February 12, 2021 – Public Health has declared an outbreak of COVID-19 at Inasmuch House, our violence against women shelter, currently consisting of one positive case. The positive individual is a resident of the shelter, and the resident and their family have been transferred to the isolation centre.
Inasmuch House has provided details to Public Health regarding all staff, residents, and visitors who have been on site within the exposure time frame, and will work with Public Health and the Shelter Health Network to ensure that tests are arranged for anyone identified with high risk exposure.
Public Health and the Shelter Health Network have visited the shelter throughout the pandemic and have indicated that we are following all of their recommendations and guidelines regarding safe practices and protocols. In addition to regular cleaning and access to PPE for all staff and residents, women and their children are able to remain physically distanced from other families. We have not returned to congregate dining and families do not physically interact with other families in congregate spaces.
It is our hope that these practices will prevent a wider spread than the one individual. Thank you to the Shelter Health Network for their swift and compassionate care in keeping our residents and staff as safe as possible.
Ongoing and current updates regarding case numbers will be posted at the top of our website.
The dedicated staff at Inasmuch House remain committed to serving women and children fleeing abuse while practicing health and safety recommendations during the pandemic.
