Community Services and Outreach – Client Advocate (Part-Time, Permanent, 4 Positions)

The Client Advocate will provide feminist, trauma-informed, compassionate and innovative supports and therapeutic, activity-based groups for women. The Client Advocate will support women’s individual goals and plans including referrals and/or housing applications and assessments. The Client Advocate will assist women in meeting their basic needs by providing access to food, showers and laundry facilities. The Client Advocate will assess the safety of the women they support and work with service users to create personal safety plans. The Client Advocate will also support women in developing coping strategies and harm reductions strategies (when necessary). The Client Advocate will prevent, manage and defuse any behavioural issues that may arise in the space, and encourage a caring, healthy, safe and positive work setting for their peers.

Men’s Services – Shelter Support Worker- Hotel (3-Month Full-Time Contract, possibility of extension) (5 Positions)

The Shelter Support Worker (Hotel) will work as part of a team to provide practical support and advocacy to service users from client-centered, trauma-informed, harm reduction and anti-oppressive perspectives. The Shelter Support Worker will be required to work at both the Men’s Emergency Shelter Hotel, and the Men’s Emergency Shelter (James Street N.) depending on program needs.

This position will require a working knowledge, and a range of skills pertaining to, working within Health and Safety guidelines and proper food handling techniques. The Cook will have valid Food Handler’s Certification and the ability to work a flexible schedule of day, afternoon and weekend shifts, as required to meet the needs of the programs.

The Legal Advocate provides legal advocacy support within various judicial systems to women-identified individuals and their dependents who have experienced abuse. The Legal Advocate is not a lawyer and cannot provide legal advice. The Legal Advocate will provide service from a trauma informed, intersectional, feminist, ARAO lens, and a client-centered approach respecting each women’s self-determination and personal decision-making.
